Energy and the Environment
Developing new energy sources and technologies that benefit the environment and economy, and helping to implement those technologies.
Energy & Sustainability (E&S) are research and education areas of critical importance in today’s world. The ongoing climate crisis and the pressing need for sustainable development strategies require transformative engineering solutions and innovations in broad areas ranging from energy sciences to geoengineering.
E&S are extremely broad topics connected to two grand challenges:
- Protection of the environment and people, encompassing areas such as food and water access, agriculture technologies, sensing devices, aquaculture, etc.
- Clean and sustainable energy, encompassing subjects such as water-energy nexus, clean energy technologies, energy storage, efficiency of buildings, vehicles and propulsion systems, etc.
